Give a Hoot - April 2026
Hi neighbors!
Another month has flown by and I’m excited to slide into everyone’s inbox with a flurry of updates and excitement happening in the coming weeks.
🕐 Important programming note: Beginning May 19th, ONE meetings will begin at 6:30pm. Update your calendar accordingly!
We still plan to keep all meetings to an hour, but we’re hoping to give ourselves a little wiggle room because the team at Coan need the space returned at 8pm sharp.
A few more housekeeping items:
2 events TONIGHT to support the neighborhood: Toomer’s Data Dig (child care provided!) and ONE’s Spirit Night @ Bona Fide. Eat dinner, support ONE and learn about our awesome local elementary school… all in one night. More deets on card #2.
🗳 Early voting started yesterday! Check out a sample ballot to know what you can expect when you show up to the polls before the primary election on May 19th.
Check out the minutes from our April meeting and join us next month, May 19th @ new time - 6:30pm!
Let’s get into it…

MARTA Reach has officially launched in Edgewood, aiming to bring more transportation options in the neighborhood after MARTA's NextGen Bus Network eliminated a bus routes earlier this year.
Think Uber, but cheaper!
The goal is to give Edgewood residents an affordable, convenient alternative to rail and bus options.
A MARTA Reach fare is the $2.50 rate you can expert on other MARTA options.
How to use it: Download the app, create an account and request a ride.
While the process is easy, don’t wait until you’re desperate for a ride. Do it well before.
What’s next: Use it! There was a big push to bring more transportation options into the neighborhood, so the City wants to make sure all the fuss was worth it.
And if you’ve already tried it out? Let key stakeholders know through this survey.

We’ve got a flurry of great events around Edgewood (and nearby neighbors), so check out the list below and mark your calendar!

Transportation
Two big things in transportation world to be aware of, beyond the MARTA updates at the top of this newsletter:
GDOT is adding sidewalks along Memorial from Moreland to Candler Road and everyone is as shocked as you are. Check out the full project plan here that should make pedestrian safety much better once complete.
👋 Longtime Transportation Committee Chair, Colin O’Leary is retiring from his many years of service to ONE and the neighborhood.
Want to thank Colin in person for your sidewalks, speed tables or stop signs? Join him and the Transportation Committee at Bona Fide on 5/13 at 7pm for their monthly meeting, and to wish Colin well as he re-enters civilian life away from ONE.
Parks & Green Spaces
Big efforts from Kelly Draper and company are underway to transform Edgewood’s only City of Atlanta park, Walker Park.
A few key things Kelly and co are focused on…
Renaming Walker Park: This longtime neighborhood green space is actually named after General Walker, a Confederate General killed in the Battle of Atlanta who was an avid proponent of slavery. The neighborhood is in agreement that it’s time to retire the name and celebrate something that represents the spirit of Edgewood.
Early plans are also underway to create a stepped entrance into the park. Dare we say, make it inviting?
Fundraising will begin on this soon and people power is needed! Email Kelly and team at edgewoodgreenspaceatl@gmail.com to get involved. No experience necessary.
Join the Friends of Walker Park Facebook Group to stay up to date on the above projects, and more, in the coming months.
ONE Leadership
🙏 Thanks to all of our committee leaders and block captains who have stepped up in the last few months to bring initiatives, events and projects to life in our community.
Want to get involved? Email us at oneexecutiveboard1@gmail.com.
Update on the Neighborhood Plan: NPU-O will vote TONIGHT to support an ordinance to adopt the revised Edgewood Neighborhood Plan.
Join virtually @ 6:30pm to support!
Moving in the Spirit’s Summer Dance Camp
Moving in the Spirit is offering a Summer Dance Camp for youth ages 7-15 this July 13 - 24.
Through dance and multidisciplinary art-making, students will explore empathy and community in developmentally appropriate and engaging ways. Sliding-scale tuition is available!
Go deeper: Check out camp details and registration here.

Happy Hour is back, baby!
Thanks to support from Councilmembers Liliana Bakhtiari and Jason Dozier, City Council has passed an ordinance allowing local bars and restaurants to offer happy hours deals.
There are a few rules… you won’t see all you can drink offers anywhere anytime soon, but our local establishments, like El Tesoro, below, are leaning in to offer deals to the community in the coming weeks.

🙏 And thank you to the Councilmember and her team for giving ONE a $5,000 grant for community building purposes.
