👋 Hi neighbors!
Big meeting this month! And a new welcome to Mackenzie, Eric, Eve, and Hillary for joining us this month.
A couple of important reminders…
🍷 Don't forget to buy your ticket for Night Owl - happening this Friday! Our Community & Belonging Committee's adults-only fall fundraiser is happening this Fri., Sept. 25th from 6-8pm at the Edgewood Community Garden (57 Mayson Ave).
Wine, hors d'oeuvres, and good company, all in support of neighborhood programming. Get your ticket.

🎃 Edgewood Halloween is coming, and it's a big one this year and we would love your help! Hit reply or check the details below to consider getting involved.
Now let’s dive into it…

After months of work, ONE members voted to approve our revised bylaws, bringing our governing documents in line with the neighborhood plan that the city adopted this summer.
What's changing:
A bigger board. We're moving from 4 officers making all the calls to up to 9 total board members. This will be the existing 4 officers plus new at-large director seats.
Broader membership. If you live, own property, work, volunteer, or otherwise have a meaningful connection to Edgewood, you're eligible to join and vote. Not just homeowners.
Electronic, secure voting with a two-day window to review materials before you vote, instead of only voting in person on the spot.
Real governance for the first time: term limits (2-year board terms, staggered), a conflict-of-interest policy, anti-harassment and whistleblower policies, and a code of conduct.
This means we need you! With the new structure, we're recruiting for up to 9 board positions for the 2027 term, and a few officer roles (including Vice President and Secretary) are turning over, too.
If you or someone you know would be a great fit, reach out ASAP.

🎃 Halloween on Flora & Finley
Edgewood’s spookiest season is upon us, and we’ve got all the fun of last year - and more this Oct. 31!
Here is the tentative schedule:
🕐 4pm-5:30pm - Kids Activities, Free Meals, Music @ La France Green Space
🕐 5pm-8pm - Trick-or-Treat Alley @ Flora & Finley
Trick or treaters will walk from the green space, across Whitefoord and head down La France to Flora
Flora and Finley will be closed to traffic, forming an L-shape from La France down to Hardy
Guards will be stationed to offer additional security and safety throughout the night
New this year: La France Walk and Finley Homes will be part of the trick-or-treat path. Be ready!

We need volunteers for setup and cleanup! This has historically been a great role for non-parents in the neighborhood who want to get involved
Participate without living on Flora or Finley! Hit reply and we can match you with a neighbor who has a driveway to share
Sponsor an officer or kids meals for the evening by hitting reply to be connected to the Halloween committee
Parks and Green Spaces
ONE members voted to prioritize ADA accessibility as the first use of funds, with one of three options to be pursued depending on final cost and design: Memorial Terrace ADA entrance, Burgess/Monument ADA parking spot, East Side Avenue ADA entrance and parking
This is contingent on ONE receiving a Park Pride grant, and then matched by discretionary funds from Councilmember Bakhtiari's office
The renaming of Walker Park to Rose Hill Park is still moving forward, and that legislation is expected to go through before the end of the year.
Parents Network & Education Committee
🚲 The Friday bike bus is alive and well! Join at 7:15am on Fridays if you’re looking for a fun commute to school or just want to see the neighborhood kids in action
🎥 Movie night returns Friday, Oct. 2nd @ 8pm with Coco at La France Green Space by Bona Fide, VinATL and Moving in the Spirit. Bring a blanket to sit on and enjoy the fall breezes while we can.
✏️ Rising kindergartners for fall 2027: a listserv and GroupMe are up and running, with a first playdate next month! Check Toomer PTA's Instagram or reach out to connect.
Zoning
The Zoning Committee reviewed a variance request at 1422 Memorial Drive to raise a retaining wall from 3 to 5 feet.
After multiple rounds with the applicant and no updated plans addressing pedestrian/bike safety concerns, the committee recommended denial. ONE members voted to support the committee’s recommendation.

Councilmember Liliana Bakhtiari
Flooding on Mayson is a priority for the Councilmember’s office. Fixes are in progress with Watershed Management and they are working through approvals.
The pothole on La France near the Edgewood Retail District is also a priority. Watershed is being actively pushed for a repair timeline.
The Councilmember's office is ready to commit up to $90,000 in Park Pride funds toward Walker Park ADA improvements, pending the Park Pride grant award.
Atlanta Police Department
Crime in our zone is down 29% over the last 28-day period compared to the one before it.
Neighbors should expect updates from APD soon on recent car break-ins, as they have some good leads.
Noise complaints about late-night motorcycle traffic on Sanderson were flagged and officers will be patrolling the area.
Atlanta Public Schools
Toomer's new Accelerated Literacy Model is underway, adding extended literacy blocks and early interventions for pre-K through 3rd grade.
APS is drafting a human-centered AI policy focused on protecting educators' role and student privacy. More to come on this!
